IDOLO

IDOLO is a series of paintings (oil on canvas or panel) created by Gregory Gaddoni and inspired by the Taules, megalithic monuments found primarily on the island of Menorca (Balearic Islands), and other prehistoric megalithic monuments, such as dolmens.

Through his personal pictorial synthesis, Gregory Gaddoni transforms the subject from figurative to abstract, releasing its symbolic and evocative potential.

At the heart of his research lies the dialogue between the vertical and the horizontal: a sacred dialectic of axes that visually translates the ancestral tension between human creation and the natural order.

For Gregory Gaddoni, the Taules become totemic symbols, archetypes of virtues (Temperance, Courage, Wisdom, Justice), of human emotions (The Lovers), and of eternal devotion to the earth and its natural cycles (Summer Solstice, Winter Solstice, Spring Equinox, and Autumn Equinox), remaining the center of gravity around which the island's life has revolved for millennia (Talatì and Trepucò).

The Taules stand unperturbed by the passing of centuries and a changing world, aware of the immanence of the seasonal movement, and everlasting guardians of the right measure—the Aristotelian Mesotes (μεσότης)—that sustains the soul.
